Passionate Middle Schoolers + 5 Days in the Summer + Nonprofits = Awesomeness
Indian Creek's first annual Institute for Community Impact was a great success this summer, thanks to an engaged and dedicated group of student leaders.
ICS students spent their days weeding and harvesting in the community garden, sorting food at the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, and learning from elders at a local senior center. They also packed "Backpacks of Love" for The Blue Ribbon Project and discovered ways to help the Chesapeake Bay at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Throughout the week, students heard from inspiring speakers, including the CEO of FarmUnity and Indian Creek's Director of Community & Well-Being Isaiah Noreiga. Additionally, the group toured the State House and visited the Senate floor with Senator Sarah Elfreth, who shared valuable advice on community involvement.
As a result of this initiative, 68 pounds of food were donated to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, and part of the proceeds from the Institute were used to make donations to each location visited. To top it off, the students created a project to help their community that they plan to work on this upcoming academic year.
