On the morning of Thursday, September 5, close to 700 members of the Indian Creek student body, faculty, and staff gathered for a Convocation Ceremony to officially open the 2024-25 school year.
This annual Creek tradition established that a culture of kindness and connection is to be a driving force for the year. Head of School Booth Kyle opened the ceremony by welcoming the 127 new students and 19 new members of the faculty and staff. He then addressed the entire student body, stating “I want to make sure that all you students know that this is your school, and that you belong here.”
He went on to share some statistics and fun facts about the wide range of backgrounds, talents, and interests of the ICS community this year and closed by sharing with the students that “You are a diverse and strong student body in every regard – interesting, talented and motivated. We worked hard to gather you all here so that you could share your interests, your kindness, and your talents with each other and so that you could learn from one another and from your teachers…Let’s make it a great year!”
The ICS solo choir performed an uplifting song, and the fourth grade invited the crowd to join them in singing the ICS spirit song. After this, Middle Schoolers Cole, Grace, Serena, Leah, Chase, and Jeremiah shared what the ICS Mission Statement means to them: Cole Thompson: “At ICS, we believe authenticity means being our own true selves and making sure that others can be their real selves at school. We show connection by forming a partnership and being a family. And at ICS, we know curiosity means trying new things, exploring new ideas, and learning how to learn.”
Student Government President Madison Harris ’26 then shared some advice with the ICS community, reminding them all to be true to themselves. “Each and every one of you have your own passions and talents and you are here at Indian Creek to showcase them. I believe that if we all make an effort to connect with one another, be our unique selves, and try something new, we will have a great 2024-25 school year.”
Finally, Director of Community and Well-Being Isaiah Noreiga closed the assembly by reminding the students and faculty to take care of themselves and each other. “School is not just about learning in the classroom – it’s also about making friends, supporting one another, and staying healthy and happy. If you see someone who needs a hand, be the one to help them out. Be a good person. Be a good friend. That is who we are at the Creek.”
