ICS Alum and Broadway Dancer David Grindrod '09 Choreographs Spring Musical "Bring It On!"
Indian Creek theater students have benefited from Broadway-level professional training this school year as ICS alum David Grindrod ’09 has shared his dance and choreography talents with cast and crew in preparation for the school’s spring performance of Bring It On!
Grindrod, an accomplished singer, dancer, and choreographer who has performed in multiple New York City-based and touring shows and has choreographed extensively, joins rehearsals regularly both on campus and virtually, and students are likewise able to join rehearsals in-person and virtually.
Senior Arija Martin said Grindrod’s presence, expertise and natural way of teaching has enriched the experience for all students participating in musical theater this year. “David is amazing,” said Martin. “For me, as a dancer, it’s nice to have someone who cares as much about dance as I do, focusing on details and cleaning up routines. He’s really, really creative with choreography, and he does it by telling stories, and it comes across really well. It definitely is challenging, but it’s a new type of challenge from what we’ve had in the past, and I’m very excited that he’s been here with us.”
Sophomore Abbi McKenney said the spring musical is taking shape in new and vibrant ways with help from Grindrod. “It’s been a whole different experience, and the show is really coming to life,” said McKenney. “The way David moves us, it makes it brighter and more exciting. He can do things that more advanced dancers and performers are doing. It’s inspiring too, because you look at him and he’s a good role model, and he’s really good at what he does, and it pushes you to want to do well.”
The incredible entertainment and energy that Grindrod's choreography brings to Lin-Manuel Miranda's fan-favorite musical is just one reason why performers and audiences will love this show!
