Indian Creek Awarded AFCEA STEM Kickstarter Grant for Robotics
Indian Creek School was honored to receive a 2023 Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) of Central Maryland STEM Kickstarter grant. The grant, which totals just under $5,000 will be used to purchase Robotics kits for grades 5-9.
The AFCEA awards program honors schools and educators who prioritize STEM education for students. ICS Director of Curriculum and Instruction Sarah Allen and Director of Advancement Jenny Keuleman attended the AFCEA awards ceremony last Thursday, May 4, at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland, to formally received the award. Indian Creek was one of just three private schools honored by this year's award.
AFCEA Vice President of Education Jessica Morganstern visited ICS in December to meet with Middle School students and present the award check to students and administrators. At the time of her visit, the students were excited about the upcoming arrival of the robotics kits. Since then, the kits have arrived and will be officially premiered in the sixth grade Mars projects this spring.
The AFCEA of Central Maryland Education Foundation enables the intelligence missions of today and tomorrow by supporting the education of future leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. This is the third AFCEA kickstarter grant awarded to ICS over the years. Previous grants have helped the School to purchase Ozobot sets, lego robotics supplies and other STEM materials.
These AFCEA grant awards have been instrumental in supporting Indian Creek's commitment to excellence in STEM education.
