Allen '01 and Bryant Lead OESIS Webinar on Blended Learning in Early Grades
First grade teacher Ms. Allen and Pre-K teacher Ms. Bryant have both taught blended learning classes to young students through Indian Creek's BLinc (Blended Learning at Indian Creek School) program. Both teachers have been nationally recognized for their innovation, and have spoken at conferences around the country on this topic. They expanded their expertise into a blended format, by presenting a webinar for other education professionals through the OESIS (Online Education Strategies for Independent Schools) network this week.
OESIS is a faculty-focused innovation network of over 550 independent schools. The OESIS network focuses on changing the learning models of schools with an emphasis on the innovative practices in pedagogy, curriculum development, and school culture change. OESIS provides professional development webinars, listserves, and holds conferences around t he world each year. In 2016, OESIS held a conference at Indian Creek School. Many Indian Creek faculty members have presented at OESIS conferences around the world, including Head of School Rick Branson, who was the Key Note speaker at OESIS 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts.
To open the webinar, OESIS President and CEO Sanjay Ratnavale introduced Ms. Allen and Ms. Bryant, referring to them as "two of my favorite educators in the whole country, from one of my favorite schools." He also lauded Indian Creek as the inspiration for the faculty cohort model that he provided for an academic deans panel earlier this week. Ms. Allen and Ms. Bryant then led the conversation, sharing information about how to incorporate blended learning into the early grades. They emphasized that this format (and all learning) should be an immersive experience for young students, and lauded blended learning as a way to use the best tools at our disposal to inspire learning.
