Lower School
A joyful time of growth and discovery
for students in Pre-Kindergarten 3 through Grade 5
The Lower School years at Indian Creek School are joyful and full of incredible growth and learning. As with all areas of our School, we begin each day with thoughtful community building that allows each child to feel a strong sense of belonging and value for their unique self. Each grade level becomes a family within our larger Indian Creek family. This intentional and caring environment allows us to truly know our students and to know them both as learners and as individuals. It is this nurturing environment in which our students flourish and where they are seen, valued, and challenged.
At Indian Creek, we believe in the important work of childhood. Imagination and creative play are valued throughout the Lower School grade levels and prioritized. Opportunities for outdoor experiences and education, collaborative play, hands-on learning, and STEM activities abound and enhance our rich program.
In Lower School, students develop an excellent academic foundation with a strong focus on core literacy and mathematics skills, Students also explore topics in science and social studies through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. By the time they progress to Middle School, they are ready for the demands of independent and cognitively complex learning. Ultimately, the goal of Indian Creek’s Lower School program is to inspire a love of learning and a curious mind.
Small group instruction is a hallmark of our academic experience with groups running daily in reading in math to meet the needs of all learners. Working in small groups and having regular, focused one-to-one time with teachers improves academic achievement, builds relationships with classmates and faculty, and promotes well-being.
In Lower School, students build confidence and hone their public speaking skills, through many “on stage” experiences. Grade-level musical productions, Independent Learning Days, and other regular opportunities for students to share their knowledge and talents with peers, teachers, and parents, help to develop confidence, teamwork, and skills in engaging and age-appropriate ways.
