A time of incredible growth where students learn to challenge themselves, stretch boundaries, try new things, build friendships, support each other, and make memories to last a lifetime...

In Middle School at Indian Creek we place great focus on creating a safe, inclusive, positive, supportive, and – yes – academically challenging environment where students can grow together and have a great time figuring it all out.

Middle School at ICS provides opportunities for students to pursue academic interests, challenge themselves to reach new heights, and to receive the support they need in the ways that they need it. Our passionate educators know each student. They will challenge them with opportunities in the maths and sciences; explore the world in Spanish or Latin; have their thinking challenged through history, and learn to communicate about it in English.  They will paint masterpieces and perform on stage.  They will learn the value of physical fitness, competition, personal accountability, and the meaning of “team” in PE and sports.  The classroom environment is enriched by a focus on outdoor education and experiential learning, which give students valuable opportunities to learn about themselves along the way.

When students leave eighth grade to enter high school, our Creekers are ready to thrive because of the experiences they have had in Middle School.

  • Middle School Human Development

Every ICS student in grades 6-12 takes our hallmark and foundational course, Human Development, every year. Focusing on each phase of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development, students learn about themselves, their bodies, their brains, their identities, their decision-making, and how they interact with the world around them.  Human Development is a dynamic class that allows HD teachers to address topics that come up in the community or the world at large.

  • Middle School Advisory

The Middle School advisory program begins in 6th grade, as students are placed with an advisor in groups of 8-10. This relationship continues for all three years of Middle School. Advisors support their students’ growth and development in social-emotional and academic areas while building a sense of community for their group. Advisors are the first point of contact for students and families, and the first layer in our student support network. Advisors partner with teachers, coaches, the Middle School administrative team, and with parents/guardians at home in supporting their students. Weekly meetings provide time for check-ins, conversations, and community building through lessons and events, such as advisory Olympics and challenges.
Indian Creek school is a co-educational, college preparatory independent school, located in Crownsville, Maryland.  Students in Pre-K3 through grade 12 receive a vibrant educational experience based on excellent academics steeped in strong student-teacher connections.
