The College Counseling and Alumni Offices welcomed six recent graduates back to the Creek this morning to share their insights about the college application and selection process, and transitioning to life after high school with current eighth through twelfth grade students.
This year’s panel included students from a wide range of colleges and universities, and representing a variety of majors as well as athletics and arts participation:
Daniel Ablorh ’22 spoke about his experience at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, as a Math Major and D3 Basketball player. Alex Allen ’22 shared her perspective as a Biology major with a concentration in Pre-Health Sciences and D2 Volleyball player at Fayetteville State University, in NC. Laila Ivey ’22 took time out of her D1 Volleyball schedule to share her experience as an Architecture major at the University of Maryland College Park. Emma Kornmeyer ’21 highlighted her experience as a Theater Design & Production major with an emphasis on Stage Management at Shenandoah University, VA. Michael Mercer ’20 was able to give perspective as a college senior, talking about life as an Engineering major and Classics minor at Washington & Lee University, in VA. And Ava Rouse '21 Ava Rouse ’21 represented University of Delaware (DE) as an International Relations Major with a concentration in Diplomacy and a Art minor.
Each of the alumni gave recommendations for what students should look for in a college, talked about housing and roommates, and spoke about how they feel that ICS prepared them for college-level academics and college life. Following the assembly, the alumni met with Upper School Principal Eliza McLaren and Director of College Counseling Maggie Melson to share more details about how the Creek can best prepare graduates to take on the college world.
