Legacy Faculty Members Honored as Part of Indian Creek's 50th Celebrations

Wednesday, May 15, was a wonderful day for Indian Creek as the School’s Legacy Faculty members were invited to campus to be recognized in celebration the Creek's 50th year.

The term legacy refers to a gift that is passed on, especially as it relates to one’s ethics and core values. “Legacy” comes from one's character the way an individual sets an example for others to guide their futures. This term is exquisitely apt to describe the individuals who gathered yesterday, each of whom had contributed at least 20 years of work and dedication to ICS.

Hugs were aplenty as ICS beloved former faculty and staff visited to tour of campus, view their 20-year bricks on Founders’ Patio, and enjoy a celebratory luncheon together. After a warm welcome from Head of School Booth Kyle, the legacy faculty members explored the school, observing the renovations that may have changed since they left the Creek. For some, it was an entirely new campus!  As the faculty toured the school, former students stopped many for hugs and happy tears along the way.  Art teacher Larissa Oktay ’15 was thrilled to see two of her former Lower School Principals, her Pre-K and first grade teachers, and many other mentors visit her class. Ms. Gaylynn Afdahl reunited with her last three-year-old students, who are now in the senior Class of 2024!

Legacy faculty in attendance included Ms. Afdahl, Janet Allen, Ginny Chambers, Coral Codner, Susan Coleman, Bruce Crossman, Marybeth Donovan, Neville Gardner, Charlotte Gibboney, Debbie Haavik, Linda Parks, (School Founder) Rebecca Randolph, Kay Snyder, Judy Svoboda, Carolyn Wilson, and Laura Zlatos, as well as current faculty/staff members, Rachel Barr, Hilary Briles, Amy Coleman, Chris Crouch, Donna Crouch, Troy Evans, Marsha Gardner, Jen Malachowski, Denise Malinow, Matt McCormick, Tiffany McCormick, Mindy Probst, Brad Woodward, and Jill Woodward.

Thank you to all of our legacy faculty members, near and far, who have had such a great impact on Indian Creek School.
