Student Spotlight: Arnia Goode '24

Arnia joined ICS as a freshman in 2020.  She is the co-founder and current president of the Robotics Club, the treasurer of Key Club, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, and tutor an 8th grade student. Arnia is also a member of the National Honor Society and EMPOWER as well as a member of the STEM Program the organizer of the annual STEM Expo for lower school and middle school students. She is also a member of the Varsity Soccer team and the Track & Field team.

Arnia's favorite thing about ICS is the project-based learning, saying "I really do not like to memorize information for tests. Rather, I prefer to understand the information that I am learning and understand how it applies in the real world. Also, I have lots of ideas and ICS has allowed me the freedom to explore them while also giving me the latitude to accomplish many of them."

Outside of school, Arnia is just as busy!  "I am an intern in the ASPIRE Program at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. I am a member of the leadership team on the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) Alumni Council. I am a certified grassroots soccer referee and I volunteer at the Marshall Hope Learning Center. I also play club soccer for the Liverpool FC ‘05 and ‘06 teams."

She adds, "I am happy that I have been able to find several opportunities outside of school to apply my skills, including interning at the University of Maryland Robotics Center where I expanded my understanding of robotics and engineering. I like being able to apply my skills in real world scenarios, learn about future career possibilities, and meet people who support my ideas and interests. As a result of the internship, I was able to meet mentors and secure a significant donation of parts which, in combination with the support of school administration, helped the Robotics Club to successfully compete in FIRST Tech Challenge this year."

Her fondest memory of ICS is "Playing Manhunt at night with my friends during the class of 2024 overnight field trip in the fall of my junior year." After ICS she is "looking forward to continuing to expand my knowledge in engineering and exploring future career possibilities."
