Academic Excellence Recognized: 51 ICS Students Earn AP Scholar Awards
Indian Creek celebrated academic excellence this week, as the College Board honored 51 students for earning Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar awards, and six others were acknowledged by the College Board's National Recognition program. This prestigious distinction recognizes exceptional performance on the 2024 AP exams. During the 2023-24 school year, 144 ICS students took 244 exams in 16 subjects. The 51 students who earned AP scholar recognition earned high scores on at least three exams last spring.
Twenty-eight ICS students received AP scholar recognition for scoring a three or higher on at least three AP Exams. Nine students earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award for scoring 3.25 or higher on all AP exams taken and achieving scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these examinations. Eight students were recognized with the prestigious AP Scholar with Distinction Award for achieving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams.
Two ICS students were awarded the AP Seminar and Research Certificate for completing both courses and earning scores of 3 or higher in each subject, and four others qualified for the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma. This distinctive recognition mandates scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research and four more AP exams. These two courses emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to foster critical thinking, research skills, collaboration, time management, and effective presentation abilities – all essential for thriving in higher education.
Additionally, six ICS juniors were named as recipients of the College Board's National Recognition Program Awards. These students scored among the top 10% in Maryland on the PSAT/NMSQT test, and were considered based on their academic GPAs, and other identifying information.
